Magnesium 350 vs. 400 mg - Why Less is More

Magnesium 350 vs. 400 mg - Why Less is More

How much magnesium should I take each day? How much magnesium is too much? Below we answer these questions and discuss why KAL changed the Magnesium Glycinate formula from 350 to 400 mg.

Magnesium is an essential nutrient utilized in over 300 enzymatic functions in the body. Depending on the type and dosage , it can help with many functions, including bone health, muscle function, sleep, and relaxation, to name a few.*

Though you can find it in foods like leafy green vegetables, nuts, and milk, about 48% of the U.S. population consumes less than the recommended daily allowance. Why, then, is a smaller dosage the better choice?

Why the Change?

With half of the U.S. population not consuming enough magnesium, it may seem illogical to lower the dosage on a magnesium supplement.

However, we reformulated our Magnesium Glycinate to match the National Institute of Health’s Tolerable Upper Intake Levels for magnesium, which is 350 mg for adults. This limit applies to magnesium obtained exclusively from dietary supplements or medications.

The recommended daily intake of magnesium is still between 310-420 mg for adults (310-320 mg for women and 400-420 mg for men), but the upper intake limit takes into account the magnesium that you get from food. Our new formulation will help support your daily intake of magnesium without contributing to an overconsumption of this essential mineral .

Why It’s Better

Despite lowering our magnesium dosage, we designed the new formulation with BioPerine® because numerous clinical studies have shown it helps support greater absorption and bioavailability in other vitamins and minerals. BioPerine® is a patented extract of the dried fruits of the black pepper plant and contains at least 95% piperine. Piperine is the alkaloid that gives black pepper its distinct flavor and is believed to be responsible for better absorption.

You may also be wondering why a full dosage is four VegCaps a day; it’s because our magnesium is chelated with glycine. Glycine is a large molecule and takes up more space, so it requires more capsules per serving to get the necessary amount. We chose to add it to our formula because when magnesium is chelated with glycine, it helps it absorb more easily in the body. This is a great option for those who don’t get enough magnesium from their food!

KAL Magnesium Glycinate 350 mg  has many benefits that may be beneficial to you and your loved ones if you’re having a hard time getting enough magnesium. Our Magnesium Glycinate is designed to help support relaxation, as well as bone health, muscular health, and enzymatic function.*
